石斑木會開出繖形花朵，花朵形似梅花，因此在日本通稱為「車輪梅」。這款原生於日本的厚葉石斑木稱為「丸葉車輪梅」。它對於臺灣夏季適應良好。日照充足時，葉子的尺寸會更精緻，明亮的散光處也能維持生長，而且能夠忍受乾旱。
