墨水樹是少數適合製作迷你盆栽的豆科樹木。2~4對的羽狀複葉小巧可愛，夜晚會休眠閉合。樹幹總是筆直生長，卻會呈現對稱的彎曲，是造型獨特的樹種。
它也是適應力強健的樹木，一不注意新芽就會衝高，能使樹幹快速變粗。掌握修剪原則的話，也能快速創造分枝。適合想要熟悉樹木修剪與生長方式的初學者。
